Homeschool Mini Hack: Make Goals With Post-It-Notes!

Homeschool Hack (a teeny tiny simple one!)

Today I have the tiniest, simplest hack for you: use your post-its!

You have probably seen me talk about homeschool organization and rave about life-size Post-It posters…but today I’m just talking about your plain-old-normal-sized Post its.

We are nearing the end of the school year, and we are all pretty tired! My kids have been dragging their feet a bit with math this year (although I really love our curriculum) and I was having a hard time constantly tracking how many pages to complete each week, in order to finish by Memorial Day.

Use Post-It Notes for Goal Setting

Enter…post-it notes!

Do I think this idea of revolutionary? HA! No. I’m sure many people do this. But sometimes, as homeschool moms, we are working so hard and focusing so intently on certain aspects of the day, we forget the basics! I can’t tell you how many times I have been chatting with other homeschool parents and heard a simple idea that then revolutionized our school experience–that week, that month, or even that year!

using post it notes in homeschool

Truly-this is the simplest idea ever. Maybe you are already doing it. I split up my kids’ math books into Friday dates, so that we could visually see what had to get done each Friday. Each week, when we start working on it together, we see how many pages we have to complete, do some quick calculations based on how crazy our schedule is that week, and get to work. It’s really helpful for my kids to see a concrete number, and date, as a small goal towards which to work. It’s helpful for me too! I have a concrete ending point right there in the book.

It’s been exciting to remove post-it notes from the book each Friday, too, as we complete the section!

Like I said…not rocket science! But you never know…maybe you too are feeling burnt out as the school year comes to a close, and this tiny hack can make your week flow a little more smoothly.

If you want to step it up a notch, I made a FREE Daily Homeschool checklist–unlike any other I’ve seen. I wanted a way to type in custom tasks, for each of my kids, and print it off each week! If you have multiple kids and/or like to have more border options, there’s also one with more border options, here.

Happy spring-we’re almost there!
